CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPOSIBILITY
Bombo Medico and Dugong Bombo
It was on August 26, 2007 when 2,000 people flocked to the College of Law in the University of Iloilo, but they were not looking for law professors.
They were looking for medical doctors. And waited on them these doctors and some volunteers did, offering their services, as well as special supplies and free medicine.
The event, called Bombo Medico, was a medical and dental mission targeted at the poor. It began as a joint project of Queenbank and its sister company Bombo Radyo Philippines to solve a problem brought to their attention by Bombo Radyo’s listeners. “It’s been three years now,” says Roger Gencianeo, assistant station manager of Bombo Radyo Iloilo. “Apart from that, we also have Dugong Bombo that started in 2003. Our medical program has had 2000 indigent beneficiaries.”
During the onset of the program, one of the main problems the listeners were was a lack of basic medical attention, even for common illnesses. Bombo Radyo and Queenbank sought solutions to address this, among many others – hence, the free dental and medical mission.
Queenbank and Bombo Radyo proved to be a formidable team. Queenbank provided the manpower and Bombo Radyo got the word about the mission around the city – and eventually the region.
The mission proved to be a success greater than they imagined. The overwhelming number of attendees led Queenbank and Bombo Radyo to replicate the mission in several cities around the nation, partnering with schools, malls, and civic centers as venues. In Luzon, the mission was replicated in Legazpi, Naga, Baguio, Cauayan, Dagupan, La Union, Laoag, Tuguegarao, and Vigan. In the Visayas, there were Iloilo, Bacolod, Cebu, Kalibo, Roxas, and Tacloban. In Mindanao, there were Butuan, Cagayan de Oro, Cotabato, Davao, Dipolog, General Santos, Marbel, and Zamboanga. About P8 million worth of medicine, vitamins, and other products for health and wellness were given annually.
Dugong Bombo, on the other hand, is a nationwide simultaneous blood letting event in cooperation with the Philippine National Red Cross. Queenbank continues to work with Bombo Radyo in organizing this event. In 2008, the program collected a total of 1600 liters from over 5000 donors.
The spirit of volunteerism keeps Queenbank going tirelessly in this annual endeavor, as it understands that its responsibilities are far from limited to providing banking and financial services, but in being a valuable company within the community as a whole committed to providing immediate help to the impoverished and indigent.

Scholarship Program
Education is an investment. It is crucial for long-term growth, both individually and collectively. To invest in a child’s education is one of the best things anyone could do to contribute to the development of a nation.
Queenbank believes in caring for the welfare of its employees. They are the backbone of the organization, the reason why the bank is living up to its reputation as a committed, dedicated institution. The equally dedicated and committed employees are doing their job very well -- because they are raising their own families
One way to thank them for their dedication is to assist them – and one of the ways Queenbank are doing is by offering scholarships to deserving and academically competent children of its employees. Take for instance, John Nino Escorpion, a third year Political Science major from the West Visayas State University. His father is a company driver, and Queenbank has assisted him all throughout his high school years with tuition and book allowance. The same goes for Aira Sobretodo – who is now in her third year in BS Biology at West Visayas State University and the daughter of a radio technician at Bombo Radyo. “Not only Queenbank employees, but also employees of sister companies are benefited.”
“The allowances were of great help to us during our high school years,” said Pritchie Montano, an Information Technology sophomore from the same university and daughter of a security personnel from the Florete Group of Companies.
Through a simple gesture of assistance, Queenbank shows how much it values education as a tool the youth could use to bring progress to the future and, at the same time, show gratitude to its dedicated, committed, and loyal employees who have been with the institution and group of companies every step of the way.
